Confusion at Gombe varsity after newborn baby thrown down from second floor

Yesterday, there was chaos at the main campus of Gombe State University, Gombe, following the tragic death of a day-old baby. The baby was thrown from the second floor of the female hostel, leading to its demise.

The infant's lifeless body was discovered early in the morning near Hall IV of the female hostels by passersby who immediately raised the alarm. Unfortunately, the baby had sustained a fatal injury to its right leg and was already dead.

The authorities were able to trace the baby to a female student named Rahab, who is a 400 Level Public Administration student at the university. Rahab had concealed her pregnancy for months by wearing a hijab gown to avoid detection.

After the incident, a large crowd of sympathizers gathered around the female hostels, discussing the disturbing occurrence. An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, shared the details of Rahab's arrest. University security apprehended her amidst an angry mob, and she was covered in a hijab to protect her from potential harm.

The university's Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Abubakar, confirmed the incident to The Nation newspaper. He stated that an individual had been identified as the perpetrator and that the university was taking the matter seriously. Abubakar emphasized that disciplinary action would be taken, as it is a crime to kill a baby in such a manner.

Furthermore, the university has reported the incident to the police for further investigation. However, the Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Mua'zu, mentioned that they had learned about the incident through social media but had not yet received a formal complaint from the university. The police have initiated an investigation and are trying to locate the culprit.
