The 24-year-old defendant, who worked as a laborer, was arrested by the state police command after the incident. He was subsequently charged with murder and brought before the court.

The incident occurred as both Clement and Alatoye were on their way to the farm in Ofosu community, Idanre Local Government Area of the state. Clement suddenly moved backward, took out a sharpened cutlass, and slashed the victim's neck, causing his head to hang.

According to the prosecutor, Mary Adebayo, the offense took place on September 4, 2023, around 2:30 p.m. at Baba Odun Camp, Ofosu in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state. Adebayo stated that the defendant's actions violated Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.

Chief Magistrate Folasade Aduroja granted the prosecutor's request, ordering the defendant to be held in prison custody. He attributed his actions to the drugs he had consumed, specifically mentioning "Ice" he had taken in the hot sun.
