Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid has added Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi to their shortlist for a summer transfer. The club is seeking to sign a new defensive midfielder, and Ndidi has emerged as a potential target.
Atletico Madrid's sporting department has been compiling a list of potential signings over the past few months. The list includes players like Mallorca's Samu Costa, and Ndidi has now been added to the mix. The Nigerian midfielder has been linked to several top clubs in the past, including Barcelona, but he ultimately signed a new contract with Leicester City.
However, it is expected that Ndidi will leave Leicester City in 2025, and Atletico Madrid is one of the clubs interested in signing him. The 28-year-old midfielder has a contract with Leicester City until 2027, but it seems likely that he will be on the move soon.
Ndidi has had an impressive career with Leicester City, featuring in 208 matches in the English Premier League. He was part of the team that won the FA Cup in 2020/21 and the FA Community Shield. Ndidi also played a key role in Leicester City's Championship-winning season in 2023/24, scoring four goals and assisting five goals in 32 appearances.
Atletico Madrid is not the only club interested in signing Ndidi. Real Betis is also reportedly keen on the Nigerian international, and AS Monaco is said to be competing with Atletico Madrid for his signature. Monaco even had a £20m offer turned down during the winter transfer window.
