Steps to start fish farming business

One business which is thriving now is fish farming. This is because as
more people are cutting down on eating red meat, they are going for
healthier choices like fish.
A fish based business could easily generate good returns on
investment. You could easily make a steady income from your home,
using aquaculture fish farming techniques.
However, getting knowledge on how the business runs is very
important.
A fish farmer and consultant, Muhammed Shuiab said before you go
into fish farming, you need to determine whether you want to go into
big or small-scale commercial venture. “Secondly, the pond system to
adopt; whether it is a flow-through system or recirculatory system
using either earthen pond, concrete, or plastic tanks respectively.”
Shuaib explained.

Getting knowledge

There are two types of fish farming, Shuaib said - the “nursery
operations and primary operations. Nursery operations involve the
inducement of the female fish to lay eggs which are then fertilised,
incubated and hatched thereafter. The newly hatched fish are known
as fries. These fries are then nurtured for between three to four weeks
into fingerlings which are the size suitable for use in the fish grow-out
operations,” Shuaib explains.
In between the nursery and grow-out operations is the primary
operation. The primary operation involves the nurturing of the three
weeks old fingerlings for between one to 10 weeks within which they
could grow into post fingerlings, mini juveniles and post juveniles.
These can then grow between four to five months to a table size fish
suitable for sale and ready for consumption.
If you want to start small, you can setup a fish pond right in your
backyard. It is also possible to raise fish in a fish tank in your garage.
You can easily get all the supplies you need to set up your small fish
farm and start fish farming.

Water

“For fishes, water is life,” according to Mr Felix Mbuk, another fish
farmer.
“Water supply must come from a good source e.g borehole, tap or any
spring of water that is flowing around your pond. This will help
guarantee steady water supply for filling the pond and draining waste
respectively. On my farm, I have a reservoir where I store water, so I
don’t lack water,” Mbuk said.
Feeding
Again, feeding the fish is very important. “Without this, they cannot
gain weight. And when they are hungry, they can become wild. So, you
must have money for their food handy at all times.  Fish feed is a very
vital component in operating a fish farm. You must feed the fish to
attain required weight gain,” Mbuk said.

Capital to start

“This varies depending on the type of fish farming systems you are
willing and ready to invest on.  With a minimum of N150, 000, you can
start the production of fingerlings to grow to three weeks then you can
advertise for sale to other farmers to buy at an average price N30
depending on the size,” Shuaib said.
Know your market
Once you know what your options are and how much money you need,
the next step should be analysing the market. Who are your buyers?
What type of fish is most profitable?

Profit

On how lucrative the business is, Shuaib says yes. “The average cost
of fish in the market is N600, so if you have a pond and you are able
to stock 10,000 fish, I guess you know how much your return on your
investment will total up to. That will be about N6 million,” he
explained.

HOW TO PRODUCE PERFUME

HOW TO PRODUCE PERFUME
Perfume is simply the mixture of alcohol and fragrant essential oils extracted from flowers, leaves, stem barks, seeds, bud, roots, resin and petals or synthetically, used especially to ignite pleasant long lasting scent to the body. Wearing of perfume is another aspect of fashion or make-up for both males and females, this is because everyone wants to be noticed and envied by others which creates self esteem and in turn build self confident.
My reason for putting up this article is to help the present and upcoming generation in job creation ( self employment) especially in a society where there is hardly job opportunities for the rapid growing population. Perfumes can be manufactured both at home and at the laboratory just with a little sum of money . Perfume production enables one to have a choice of fragrance ( essential oil) to experiment with, most especially when producing the perfume for oneself or a friend's birthday party. Also, it allows buyers to directly depend on you since you are the one that have the knowledge of the perfume formula. This process is very simple and cost low.

Why do people wear perfumes?
Number one reason why we wear perfumes is because it makes us happy, this is dependent on individual motive other reasons why we wear (spray) perfumes are:
- Perfumes awaken memories, for instance a particular fragrance could remind us of some similar fragrances in foods like chocolate, clothes, or environments we've come across before especially when we were a bit younger.
- Perfumes help to relax or calm our minds through massage,shower-bath with the use of fragrance which in turn help us to get rid of the stress we had during the day.
- It helps to reflect our unique personality by creating self esteem and the feeling of attractiveness.
What makes most perfumes to last longer than others ?
What makes most perfumes to last longer than others are as a result of:
1. Skin type: perfumes evaporate faster on dry skin because of lack of oils which the perfume needs to absorb into the skin, this can be corrected by using unscented moisturizer ( petroleum jelly or jojoba oil before applying perfume on the skin
2. Concentration: the higher the alcoholic content, the less the fragrance; while the higher the concentration, the more the fragrance, for instance, a body spray would be of less concentration than an "eau de toilette".
3. Notes: most fragrances have top, middle and base notes. These notes are scent with different molecular weights that appears at different rates when applied to the skin.
(a.) Top notes: - the top notes provides the first scent impression of fragrance once it is applied to the skin ; it is usually higher and more volatile aroma that evaporates easily. The scent sometimes last for about 5-30 minutes.
(b). Middle notes: - this is the body of blend of 'the fragrance', it takes longer to be noticed at the start. It usually takes 10-30minutes before developing on the skin than the top notes.
(c). Base notes: - these are the final scents to develop and lasts longer; they are also known as 'fixatives' because they help other scents to last longer by helping to slow down the evaporation rates of the higher notes - giving the fragrance a holding ( eg vanilla, woods and musk).
Black perfume bottle
Side Effects of perfumes on humans.
1. It could cause skin irritation, running eyes and nose
2. The symptoms are greater especially on asthmatic patients who are expose to the fumes.
3. It could cause sneezing, headache, and vomiting
4. It could cause dermitities- a condition in which the skin becomes red, sore or inflammed after direct contact with chemicals.
5. It could cause bees to easily stink when they perceive the scent. So do not go near bees when wearing a perfume
Black hearts perfume bottle
Chemicals for perfume manufacturing
* Methanol 1/2 litre

* Essential oils (vanilla, geranium, rose or lavender, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, cinnamon Or clove.) - 10 drops.
Steps on how to make perfume
1.Measure methanol and Ethanol in a bottle
2.Add any of the essential oils
3. Shake well and filter
4. Pour into a spray bottle and spray
Note: Be sure to filter your perfume and to use clean containers. You don't want to introduce bacteria, fungi, or mold into your perfume, nor encourage their growth. Many essential oils inhibit microbial growth, so this is less of a concern with perfume, but it becomes more of a concern if you dilute the perfume to make cologne.
